Thank You Steve
I’m not the greatest writer in the world and I worry that anything I do write about the passing of this great man will not really be adequate.
However, I want to take the time to thank the genius that is Mr Steve Jobs for giving me the tools I work with and for igniting the passion I have for technology.
The iPod Mini was my introduction to Apple and since then I have never looked...

Ungeniused
Today’s episode is not part of the Podcasting Step-By-Step guide, instead it’s something I want to announce!
Me and Stephen Hackett of 512 Pixels have launched a new podcast called Ungeniused. Ungeniused is a podcast dedicated to exploring how far down the rabbit hole one can go on Wikipedia. This often means talking about things no one should know anything about.
I’m really...

Part 1: Ideas and Hosts
This blog and show were set up to help people get in to podcasting.
So, this episode is the first in a series of shows that will (hopefully) take you through all the necessary steps to set up a podcast of your own.
This first episode is all about having ideas and cultivating them in to a niche and the benefits of sharing your show with a co-host.

Double-Ending and 3..2..1
In this episode I discuss the merits of the ‘Double-Ending’ method – both parties recording locally – and how employing a simple countdown can make your editing times much easier when doing this.

Say Hello to The Hurley Bird
Today I am launching a new project that I have been working on for a while. The Hurley Bird.
I really enjoy talking about Podcasting – as much as I enjoy doing it – and that’s why I started this blog. However, I’m much more of a talker than a writer. It can take me hours – even days – to get something written but only minutes to get it recorded.
I seem to fret over the written word....

My buddies Chris Bowler and Shawn Blanc have started a fantastic new podcast that you need to check out.
It’s the official Fusion network podcast. Fusion are the fantastic guys who are helping us out a great deal with our sponsorships.
Go check them and this show out!

Hello.
I know I haven’t posted too much frequently. Just want you to know I’m currently working on adapting this blog slightly..
I wont say too much right now. But I think you’ll like it.
Watch this space :)
Sponsorships
Today I have massive news.
All of the podcasts that I am currently involved in (The Bro Show, Enough and 11 Minutes) have been invited to join the new Fusion Sponsorship network.
In short, we will now be serving Advertisements in the shows.
In a recent interview that I did with Stephen Hackett of Forkbombr I made the following comments about this:
‘We have reached the point where to...
My interview with Stephen Hackett from Forkbombr →
I was honoured to be asked by Stephen Hackett to be interviewed as part of his Writers I Read series.
I’m a big fan of Stephen’s writing and of the interviews he conducts, so I jumped at the chance!
We talk about the work I put in to each show as well as a sneak peek at some ideas I’m currently working on.
If you enjoy the stuff I have been writing about here then...
Keeping it Straight - You, Me & Everything Else →
My good buddy and co-host, Mr Patrick Rhone has published a book!
To be honest, I’m surprised that you’re still here. Surely after reading that line above you flew straight to the Keeping It Straight website, bought the book, started reading it and forget that anything else existed!
If for some reason you still require some convincing then have a read of this blurb from the man...

Dan Benjamin's Podcasting Equipment Guide for 2011 →
The current ‘Daddy of Podcasting’ has posted his current set-up. There is some pretty awesome gear and advice in this article.
As the amount of podcasting I do begins to grow I am always looking at my next options regarding my set-up. This is a superb starting reference for me and I’d recommend everyone go and check it out.
Then – of course – ensure you keep checking back here...
One Year On
A lot has happened in a year. When we started the first Podcast I don’t think either of us would have expected it to grow to where it is now, or to allow us branch out in to other avenues.
Aside from The Bro Show, I also record Enough with Patrick Rhone and we have recently launched a Podcast with Dave Caolo called 11 Minutes. Additionally we have both started doing some writing for Macgasm...

Here’s some exciting news for you! Dave Caolo, Terry Lucy and myself have got together to create a new podcast!
It’s called 11 Minutes.
Dave came to us with a fantastic idea and we twisted his arm to let us be a part of it.
Basically, every Monday the three of us get together and talk for an hour or two. I then whittle it down to 11 Minutes (ish) of the best stuff we talk about....
The Instacast Charts →
This is an amazing thing. Both Enough and The Bro Show are featured on the most downloaded charts for the Instacast app.
This is absolutely amazing and really shows how great the users of that app are! ;)
Thanks to everyone who downloads. Please keep listening and rating in iTunes!
You guys Rock!
Branding
Before you can launch a podcast you need a name. But what is in a name? Everything.
So you have all the gear, you have the great idea, your topic, your niche. But you still need to consider a good name, a good brand, logo and style. If you can invest a little money at this point, find a good designer (I recommend Wet Frog Studios) and get yourself a good look and feel.
This is important. You...
My Favourite Audio Podcasts
I thought I would take a quick break from talking about my setups to discuss some of my favourite podcasts. Some of these shows inspired me to start doing this stuff and some of them still do; helping me shape future projects.
The following are not ranked in any order, other than alphabetically (I have only included audio in this post, I do enjoy some video shows also, I’ll save them for...
Episode 13 of Enough →
Go and listen to Episode 13 of Enough.
We discuss some pretty deep stuff and it’s awesome (of course, thanks to Pat’s wisdom)
We have come to an agreement that this is one of the best episodes we have recorded so far. The length of this episode certainly shows our passion for it’s topic!
There’s some more deep thought coming over the next few episodes and I’m...

My Current Software Setup [UPDATED]
As I travel down this Podcasting Path I’m constantly adapting and rejigging my software set up and the processes that encapsulate each show being recorded and reaching the world. Here is my current set-up for doing this:
Initially Garageband is your friend (sorry, I’m a Mac guy.. I cannot help you Windows folk as I do not know enough about the software on the dark side..). It comes...

The Hardware: My Set-Up
This post is not necessarily specific to my audio recording hardware, I just wanted to give you an idea of the set-up I am using (because some people like that kinda thing).
Currently I am running a 24” 2009 iMac, Intel 2 Core Duo with a 320GB internal hard drive. I have recently upgraded the iMac to 4GB of RAM, it’s stock 1GB was’nt cutting it anymore (I would suggest Crucial...
The Hardware: Microphones
Disclaimer: This post is likely to become rather outdated over time, I will ensure to post subsequent updates when necessary
This is the fun stuff (and also the expensive stuff).
As I have said here, when you are just starting out with your first show I would implore you not to overspend. Your Podcast is unlikely to garner an audience of millions in the first week (unless you’re already...
Plan, Plan and Plan
On a recent episode of ‘Enough’ that I recorded with Pat we discussed a little about what it takes to put together an episode and the Podcast as a whole.
There are many different topics under this (massive) umbrella, so some of the first posts I will be writing about on this site will be around this subject.
Firstly I want to cover a little bit about what you need to do to get things...
