Today I am launching a new project that I have been working on for a while. The Hurley Bird.
I really enjoy talking about Podcasting – as much as I enjoy doing it – and that’s why I started this blog. However, I’m much more of a talker than a writer. It can take me hours – even days – to get something written but only minutes to get it recorded.
I seem to fret over the written word. I go back and change things over and over to make sure it’s just right. But with audio I know that what I am saying cannot be easily changed—so I am more happy with the result (plus I can correct myself in real time).
The Hurley Bird is a one-man podcast that I am going to start doing here on this site. There will be no defined release-schedule, length or media that the show will come in—it may be video as well as audio.
Hopefully this means I’ll be able to keep you more updated on what’s going on behind the scenes. It’s a bit of an experiment for now.
Please enjoy the first episode entitled Hello!
Please subscribe in iTunes or to the RSS feed.
I would like to thank Shawn Blanc and Iain Broome for the inspiration. Additionally I’d like to thank Iain for the awesome name.
My buddies Chris Bowler and Shawn Blanc have started a fantastic new podcast that you need to check out.
It’s the official Fusion network podcast. Fusion are the fantastic guys who are helping us out a great deal with our sponsorships.
Go check them and this show out!
I know I haven’t posted too much frequently. Just want you to know I’m currently working on adapting this blog slightly..
I wont say too much right now. But I think you’ll like it.
Watch this space :)
Today I have massive news.
All of the podcasts that I am currently involved in (The Bro Show, Enough and 11 Minutes) have been invited to join the new Fusion Sponsorship network.
In short, we will now be serving Advertisements in the shows.
In a recent interview that I did with Stephen Hackett of Forkbombr I made the following comments about this:
‘We have reached the point where to continue allowing the shows to grow we need to start making money. I will always ensure that our content is not harmed by the advertisers and we will only take ads from good companies. We have a great partner who will be delivering the Ad sales for us and I’m really positive about where this will take us.
Obviously there will be some people that object to us putting ads in the shows—but I just hope that the majority of people will understand that without it they may not be around forever.’
As I have mentioned previously—One day I would like to be able to do this full-time and starting to take on Sponsorships are a key element of this.
As time goes on I will be producing additional Podcasts and this is something that the Fusion Partnership is enabling me to do.
I would like to extend my thanks to the great folks over at the Fusion Ads Network who appear to have faith and trust in the work I am doing—enough to allow me to take part in this great scheme.
If you would like to learn more about the Fusion Sponsorship network then please go here. And do not hesitate to buy an Ad yourself!
Please direct any feedback to me on Twitter (@imyke). I’d love to hear your opinions.
I was honoured to be asked by Stephen Hackett to be interviewed as part of his Writers I Read series.
I’m a big fan of Stephen’s writing and of the interviews he conducts, so I jumped at the chance!
We talk about the work I put in to each show as well as a sneak peek at some ideas I’m currently working on.
If you enjoy the stuff I have been writing about here then you’ll love this interview. Stephen asked some superb questions and really got the best out of me.
Thanks again Stephen!
Hope you all enjoy!
My good buddy and co-host, Mr Patrick Rhone has published a book!
To be honest, I’m surprised that you’re still here. Surely after reading that line above you flew straight to the Keeping It Straight website, bought the book, started reading it and forget that anything else existed!
If for some reason you still require some convincing then have a read of this blurb from the man himself:
‘Life, living, can be complex. There’s work, family, and that big bucket of everything else. Hectic doesn’t come close to defining the pace of modern life. And yet within this whirlwind it’s often the simple things that bring us the greatest joy — if we could only find them in the clutter of our lives. It may not be necessary to give it all up and live in a cave, but it can sometimes seem like a good idea.
What can you do? Take a moment and think about you, me, and everything else.
Keeping It Straight is Patrick Rhone’s very personal mediation on his own life and experiences. His clear insights identify the jumble and distractions of life today and offer simple and useful advice on how to discover and focus on what really matters. This collection of short essays is filled with clear, direct, and useful observations on productivity, life, and living.’
I feel honoured and privileged to record with Pat every two weeks. He is an extremely wise and knowledgable man and this book is testament to that. Pat breaks all of the essays down in to three sections – you, me and everything else. You may have read some before as a lot are taken from his various websites—however, having all of these superb pieces in one place is magnificent and anything Pat has written deserves multiple reads. They take on a completely new meaning when all pieced together and I ensure you this is a tome you need in your library.
Go to the site and buy the Ebook and the Paperback. Get the paperback to put on your bookshelf and the Ebook so you can start reading it instantly—without having to wait for postage.
The awesome guys over at the Bagel Tech Network invited me to be on their Bagel Tech Mac show this week.
I had a great time recording with a bunch of fellow Brits. We had a good laugh.
Please go give it a listen and subscribe while you’re at it!
Great advice from Mr. Caolo
The current ‘Daddy of Podcasting’ has posted his current set-up. There is some pretty awesome gear and advice in this article.
As the amount of podcasting I do begins to grow I am always looking at my next options regarding my set-up. This is a superb starting reference for me and I’d recommend everyone go and check it out.
Then – of course – ensure you keep checking back here to see how my equipment will grow!
